Plane Gazing

Today, Miles, Drew, and Saba had a wonderful romp in the woods at 1,000 acres. The trio hiked about 3 miles round trip to the Sandy River. Miles wore brand new rain boots with monster truck decals that enabled him to run faster, jump higher and even crash harder than he has before. This was the longest continuous hike Miles has made and he shed not a single tear despite 5 face-plants and 1 close encounter with the 4-legged kind that ended with Miles tripping heels over head on Drew's boot, planting himself onto the muddy path.

For nearly half the hike, Miles carried a stick of at least 4 feet in length to use as a drill, walking stick, lance and, on occasion, tug-of-war temptation for passing dogs. Miles only carried the 4 foot stick because Drew said that the 6 foot stick was too long to be safe. It was agreed that the 6 foot stick would be reduced to the more manageable length after the third time it inadvertently began drilling operations, causing a pile-up collision on the trail.

Other activities of the hike included puddle jumping, 8" cliff jumping, digging at the beach, swimming in the river (Saba only), exploring off-shoot trails, investigating a possible bear den, walking through thick oozy mud, running up (rarely) and down nearly every hill no matter how small or nerve-rackingly steep.

The highlight of the hike was an active day at the nearby airport. The trio stopped to gaze at the small planes passing low in the sky as if they were floats in the Macy's parade. Here, Miles calls the action.
